Observation: The Infinite. The Finite. The Edit.
It’s the first Monday of the New Year.
This morning, did you hear the cogs start?
Did you hear the titans of industry hit the gym early?
Did you hear the cry of “Bigger, Better, Faster, More”?
It’s the year of observation, yo.
And I’m observing that this morning, most of us are dragging our asses into the new year. We still want to be on vacation.
We’re going to our jobs. We’re feeling an urgency to get something done.
And we want this year to be better. We want this year to be awesome. We want to accomplish a lot.
We want Bigger, Better, Faster, More.
And it makes us anxious. Anxiety is undefined longing.
And it makes us tense. Tension is the line between what you’ve got and what you hope for.
Today’s Observation
My observation is that all of these yucky January 4th feelings are due to the fact that we are infinite beings in a finite situation.

We’ve been placed in bodies, for goodness’ sake.
We’ve been given a timeline. Granted, it’s entirely arbitrary and there may or may not be a score to keep, but geez, time is annoying.
And we’ve been given budgets! We have a finite amount of everything!
Gah!
Okay, so somewhere along the line, we agreed to these rules. We agreed to our boundaries. We agreed to the finiteness.
And we are feeling urgency. We are feeling the urgency of not experiencing our infinity.
Now What?
We have the choice:
1) to rage or
2) to live anxiously or
3) to experience the wisdom of the finite.
Guess which two I usually do. Guess which one I’m going to try today.
The Edit
Here’s this wonderful thing. It’s called The Edit.
The value of the edit says- I know that I am infinite. And I know that my experience is finite. So, let’s give this some thought, and put exactly what we want in the box called “this life’s experience”.
(And also, since I’m infinite, next time I can choose differently).

Let’s start small today. I am starting with something tangible. I’m editing the bedroom. Everything in it will be in it because I want it there. Nothing else will be. Stacks of books by my bed? Gone. Clothes I don’t wear? Gone.
Tomorrow, I might edit my work. Or my sense of self.
If you’re doing this too, I think a tangible edit is the place to start. Because in our finite experience, we need to see and feel what’s happening.
Rabbits Travel Light
I found this in the book Animal Speak (remember, I saw a rabbit, a condor and a crane in my bathwater the other day?).
Here’s what it says about rabbits:
Fast, agile and clever, they hold the teachings of spontaneous decisive movement. Always knowing which direction to go and when. When rabbit appears, it is enabling you to take advantage of opportunities that may only present themselves for brief moments.
Rabbits don’t seem to have much that holds them down. Traveling Light. Traveling Light. There’s something to be said for traveling light.

See you tomorrow. When we’re talking Chakralicious. And I’m announcing a Special.

Rabbits rock. I’m born in the year of the rabbit and that is exactlly how I feel about 2010. Traveling light!
It’s very interesting; I’ve been “editing” my possessions continually over the past couple of years and right now I’m REALLY “travelling light” in the most obvious sense of the word. There have been tons of rabbits in this neighborhood since I began living here last spring. My dog LOVED finding them. Coincidences? I think not…
Words, come easy.
