Two by Two: lovingkindness

I love my partner, Brian. I love that guy.
And I love a lesson that he recently taught me.
Here’s an extreme close-up of the guy:

Brian is polite and nice to nearly everyone. And he’s incredibly, consciously loving to me. So, he packs extra rain gear when we go camping (because I will forget mine). He makes me coffee before he goes to work in the morning. The man does my laundry. And every day, I am reminded that he is most often thinking of me and what I need.
It comes …

I was reading a few comments from over the weekend, about how people are responding to the crisis in the gulf and I had a simple little a-ha:
Tragedy exists to help us connect
Connection can happen in many ways. We can respond by giving money, by changing our habits, by becoming activists. We can respond very personally, by writing and talking and making art about our experience.
The connection is what’s important here, because through it, we create recognition and understanding in a community way, and through that we become the …

Using Intuition for the Sads…

I want to talk about sadness today. Many of us are in the sad boat, it seems.  We’re bummed. This bummed-ness feels similar to how I felt after 9/11.  It’s helplessness, hopelessness. The BP oil spill has got me in a state of hopelessness.
I was thinking, Okay, okay, BP is going to clean this up. Obama will take care of this. Okay, we’ll be okay. They’ll get out the Dawn dish soap and clean the birds.
And then I heard that this sort of thing happens in the Niger Delta every year.  …

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I’m a mama twice and a step-mama once, and I’m making shaker lemon pie.

Shaker lemon pie got me thinking about life giving me lemons, and how sweetness can make nearly any lemon more palatable.

In this video, I’m talking about these things, and eating a lemon… Hope you enjoy it!

Dear World, I have cinnamon toast.

I have observed that I am much more popular when people know that I have cinnamon toast.

Destiny, the purpose porpoise

Last week, we went on a big tour of Destiny. Now, let’s thumbprint travel, with the help of our friend, Destiny the Purpose Porpoise.

She’s a barmaid, at the edge of the universe,(which is actually the middle, we know how that goes.).

She’s got so much to say, as she serves up her cosmic cocktails.

Mutable, changeable, miracle

A plastic bag teaches me the importance of impermanence and mutability.

Our teachers can be literally any thing. I love this about life.

Come see the miracle that is change.

Love Your Temple

I used to joke that if my body was a temple, mine was a temple of doom.

My body does not look perfect. My body does not act perfect.

Certainly, by every standard I’m shown on TV and in print, my body is a before picture.

But…my body is pretty freaking awesome. It’s so much easier to love it than to hate it.

Let’s kick off a week of body love, a week of celebrating the temple, a week of understanding how to work with our bodies to move forward in our lives!

Today- I’m going to teach you how to love your body, regardless of what it looks like or feels like.

Enjoying the Day

The alarm went off this morning at 6:30. I turned it off.
I heard a voice say, Sit Zazen. The voice was excited. The divine had something to tell me.

Sitting Zazen is a form of meditation, where you sit on the floor and clear your mind. You try to think about nothing. You try not to think at all. When I sit Zazen, sometimes, great insight comes. Sometimes not. Sometimes I just relax into my present being.

I didn’t get up right away. I know how lucky I am to get to hear the voices of the divine directly.

I’m also a creature of habit, and lying in bed after the alarm goes off is my habit.

The voice didn’t wait.
